Collection: Umeshu (Plum Wine)
Ume is a Japanese plum or apricot-like fruit thought to have arrived from China some 2,000 years ago. Rich in minerals and alkaline, it was used for medicinal purposes as well people enjoying the Ume flower blossom from the end of January before the sakura season.
They are inedible on their own - but delicious when pickled as 'umeboshi', steeped in alcohol as Umeshu or made into jam, jelly and syrup.
